Louisiana “issued a sweeping blueprint—the first of its kind in the U.S.—for managing the ongoing population movement away from its coastal areas, and preparing inland communities to receive an infusion of people.”

RT @cflav@twitter.com

This is my final story for Bloomberg — and it seems like the perfect piece to end on, because what Louisiana just proposed will eventually reverberate around the country. bloomberg.com/graphics/2019-lo

Know what I haven't seen?

Imagine a 2050 where we've done a good job as a civilization in meeting the challenges we face - averting the worst climate outcomes and doing so w/ justice and prosperity.

What did the 30 years that got us there look like? The next 5? What did we do?

I’m finding myself disliking SF more and more. The homed people are getting really obnoxious.

Personal responsibility, but also collective responsibility and therefore collaborative action.

RT @EnergySRE@twitter.com

Say it with me: "Climate change is _my_ problem." Holding legislators accountable is necessary, but not sufficient. To get this done, we all need to take personal responsibility for action.

Using statistical inference and other AI to get more shale oil out of the ground is monstrous.

“What we do matters.

We cannot save the world. We can save a great deal. How much, depends on us and us alone. That is our burden, and our greatest gift.”

“we have been granted an astonishingly beautiful gift that has never before been given to humans: the chance to shepherd human and animal life into the coming centuries and millennia, when we know that it would otherwise disappear” medium.com/@enjohnston/loving-

“For better and worse, we are the ones at the intersection of knowledge and agency...anything we do this year is worth ten of the same thing ten years from now...This makes us, in a strange way, the most powerful and privileged people who have ever lived” medium.com/@enjohnston/loving-

“all media lives downstream of a large attention river where Facebook has dammed the flow, only to sell your water back to you—water that you used to receive naturally”

Feel like this tweet touches on most of the society+tech issues of this era. There’s a lot right here, and even more by association/inference.

Travis pitches Uber (Ubercab) raising $1.5m at like a $4.5m pre. I scratched my head thinking “taxi lobbies will crush them” - @chrisfralic@twitter.com raises his hand on the spot and says “I’m in for $500k.” He’s retired now. I’m not. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 twitter.com/chrisfralic/status

Here's how it's going to go: we're not going to be smart enough to plan an orderly retreat from the coasts as sea levels rise. City after town will be destroyed by storms leaving millions of refugees, toxic sites, & abandoned lands. is here.

“One of the best ways to seed agnotology [deliberately manufactured ignorance] is to make sure that doubtful and conspiratorial content is easier to reach than scientific material.”

"Agnotology and Epistemological Fragmentation" is the talk that I gave at (aka lots of awesome librarian types). It focuses on the destabilization of knowledge: buff.ly/2ZDn0Jl

2 Nature does not shuffle the examples. We shouldn't
3 Invariance across environments buys extrapolation powers
4 Invariance across environments is related to causation
5 Invariant representations enable invariance
